“…In the past a great number of investigative works have been performed in an attempt to elucidate the microvasculature of the periodontal structures. Perfusion and injection techniques utilizing certaiti dyes, silicotie or colloid materials have been reported by Keller and Cohen (1955), Goldman (1956), Schubaok and Goldman (1957), Kindlova and Matena (1959), Cohen (1960), Adams (1962), Bernick (1962), Boyer and Neptune (1962), Castelli atid Dempster (1965) and Egelberg (1966a). Biomicroscopy has also been employed to examine particularly the gingival microcirculation (Staple 1955, Forsiund 1959, Staple and Copley 1959, Franke 1960, 1964a, 1964b, 1964c, and Kamijo et al 1964.…”

“…The gingival arterial rete of the rat was studied in great detail by use of histological and perfusion-corrosion methods by Kindlova and Mate'na. 21,22 These investigators have shown in their three-dimensional specimens that the gingival arterial rete is madeup of loops and arcades formed from anastomosis of arteries arising from the gingivae and the periodontium. Direct microscopic study of the microcirculation of the gingiva in man by F o r s~l u n d~~*~~ revealed loop and anastomosis patterns which could be identified and followed while physiological changes were taking place in the organism.…”

“…Thus, in the pulp, vascular units consisting of an arteriole with terminal branches and capillaries arise repeatedly and pass through a cycle of growth, remodeling and regression concur rent with changes in the migrating pulp [Kindlova and Matena, 1959;Zajicek, 1976;Moe et al, 1979], It is conceivable that vascular adaptation also takes place in the periodontium, since the capillaries of the moving enamel organ on the labial aspect of the tooth are supplied from arteries pene trating the adjacent non-migrating bone [Kindlova and Matena, 1959]. The intimate relationship of the capillary plexus and the enamel organ [Reith, 1959;Adams, 1962;Iwaku and Ozawa, 1979] renders it likely that in a forward movement of the enamel epithelia the capillaries move forward as well.…”
