Blind interference alignment in general heterogeneous networks

Abstract: Heterogeneous networks have a key role in the design of future mobile communication networks, since the employment of small cells around a macrocell enhances the network's efficiency and decreases complexity and power demand. Moreover, research on Blind Interference Alignment (BIA) has shown that optimal Degrees of Freedom (DoF) can be achieved in certain network architectures, with no requirement of Channel State Information (CSI) at the transmitters. Our contribution is a generalised model of BIA in a hetero… Show more

“…where is the × 1 data stream vector of each user , and is the × beamforming matrix of user . As mentioned in [11], the choice of the beamforming matrices carrying messages to users in the main cell is not unique and should lie in a space that is orthogonal to the channels of the other − 1 users in the main cell. The beamforming matrix, for user , is given by:…”

“…Moreover, Blind IA was introduced, by Jafar in [10], for cellular and heterogeneous networks, by "seeing" frequency reuse as a simple form of IA. Blind IA in heterogeneous networks was generalized in [11], introducing Kronecker (Tensor) Product representation and a variation of model parameters to optimize the sum rate performance.…”

“…Papers [19,20] are examples of these works. Limited feedback channel and imperfect channel state information are the major concerns in some other papers [21,22] and blind algorithms are proposed to overcome this issue [23,24]. Although not specifically focused on femtocells, some results in [25,26] may also be used for this particular case as well.…”

“…This would be difficult to achieve since the overhead of CSI feedback would be high . In absence of perfect or partial CSIT, the DoF of the network would collapse, and hence, the transmissions would become unreliable . An interference alignment method that did not require CSIT for the broadcast channel (BC) was first proposed in Tiango et al and then was elaborated upon in Jafar .…”
