Bit error rate analysis of coded OFDM for digital audio broadcasting system, employing parallel concatenated convolutional turbo codes

Abstract: In this paper we present a study of Bit Error Rate (BER), for Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system, employing Coded OFDM with different channel coding schemes. Analysis is carried out for convolutional coded and turbo coded data in an Additive White Gaussian Channel (AWGN) based on different constraint lengths and code generator polynomials used for coding. A comparative study on the computational complexity is also done by applying an audio signal and measuring the data processing time per frame, on comput… Show more

“…Convolutional codes have memory, unlike block codes, which provides output using past information bits. If the number of registers is 6, then the constraint length equals to 7 [17,18]. The convolutional encoder consists of a code rate of 1/2, memory of 6, with code generator polynomials 133 and 171 in octal format [17,18].…”

“…This paper uses transmission mode-I for simulation. Table2 shows different transmission modes for DAB with no of subcarriers and spacing between them and length of FFT in OFDM and each transmission mode has different radio frequency which will be useful in many applications such as satellite digital radio [5]. …”

“…RADITIONAL ANALOG communication techniques do not perform well in mobile environments because appropriate techniques for reducing the effects of multi-path propagation fading have not been developed [1]. Channel coding, also known as Forward Error Control (FEC) coding, can be defined as the detection and correction of bit errors in digital communication systems.…”
