Radiolarians extracted from marine siliceous sediments from the Bentong-Raub suture zone, Peninsular Malaysia have indicated a range of ages for olistostromal blocks of bedded chert, siliceous argillite and tuffaceous argillite, and chert clasts and lenses within the mdange from the suture zone. Late Devonian (Faniennian), Early Carboniferous (Tournaisian and Viskan) and Early Permian (Wolfcampian and Leonardian) ages are represented by seven radiolarian zones from ten localities along the suture zone. In stratigraphic order these include Holoeciscus 2-3 Assemblage Zones, Albaillella paradoxa Zone, Albaillella dejendrei Zone, Albaillella cartalla Zone, Pseudoalbaillella lomentaria Zone, Albaillella sinuata Zone and Pseudoalbaillella longtanensis Zone. Fifteen genera are represented by 35 species. The range of ages from Late Devonian to Early Permian suggests that an ocean existed between the Sibumasu and East Malaya terranes from at least Late Devonian to late Early Permian time and that closure of the ocean between the two terranes could not have occurred until after late Early Permian time. The range of ages and rock types from different depositional environments, indicate that the Bentong-Raub suture zone includes a disrupted accretionary complex.

Dua puluh taksa radiolaria telah dikenal pasti daripada sampel yang diambil daripada singkapan rijang yang terdapat dalam batuan Paleozoik Atas di Utara Perak. Ini merupakan suatu penemuan baru fosil radiolaria di kawasan tersebut. Himpunan fosil radiolaria ini mewakili Zon Himpunan Albaillella deflandrei yang menunjukkan usia awal Tournaisian, Karbon Awal. Radiolaria yang berusia Tournaisian ini didapati daripada banyak lokasi di Semenanjung Malaysia dan juga di seluruh dunia. Pembentukan rijang beradiolaria pada masa Tournaisian berlaku secara global dan dikenali sebagai period hipersilika Tournaisian. Himpunan radiolaria ini mengisi wilayah paleobiogeografi dalam lautan Paleo-Tethys.

Mississippian biogenic siliceous deposits (known as 'lydites' or 'lydian rocks') intercalated within limestone successions are studied to characterize the signature of this 'siliceous period' and its significance, particularly in the Hercynian history of Europe. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach was conducted, using analysis of conodont faunas, lithologic and microfacies analyses, and the study of inorganic geochemistry, from outcrops in the French Pyrénées. Biostratigraphical study of conodont faunas has established the age of the lydites, as occurring between the lower crenulata and anchoralis-latus zones. The sedimentological study shows that the sediments were deposited in a deep-water shelf environment. The lithological succession shows a gradual deepening prior to the siliceous sedimentation. However, it appears that the radiolarites have not been deposited in a deeper water basin, but in a more proximal environment, on an external continental shelf, at a depth of less than 300 m. Analysis of major and trace elements does not show particular trends and there is no discernible change in the ocean water chemistry to explain the change of sediment type. However, the disappearance of limestone deposits and the formation of lydites are interpreted as a combination of several factors including a transgression that changes the oceanic circulation, and eutrophication linked to the circulation of nutrient-rich cold currents.
