Previous work carried out by Lansing et al (1991) and Zamir et al (1992) showed that when supplied with labeled mevalonate, Taxus plants could produce high rates of radioactively labeled taxol, indicating that taxol originated from the mevalonate pathway. Subsequent studies of taxol biosynthesis have showed conclusively that the taxane ring system is synthesized via the plastidial 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol 4-phosphate (MEP) pathway (Eisenreich et al 1996).…”
