Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles by plants crude extracts and their characterization using UV, XRD, TEM and EDX

Abstract: Plant extracts are very cost effective and eco-friendly, thus, can be an economic and efficient alternative for the large-scale synthesis of nanoparticles. The preparation of stable, uniform silver nanoparticles by reduction of silver ions with Emblica officinalis, Terminalia catappa and Eucalyptus hybrida extract is reported in the present paper. It is a simple process of global research interest for obtaining silver nanoparticles in least amount of time. These nanoparticles were characterized with UV-Vis spe… Show more

“…The indicated methods allow us to image dry NPs and assess their size, shape, distribution on the surface of composite materials. To assess the elementary composition, proportion of organic impurities and conjugates, the following methods are used: UV-vis spectroscopy [115], Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) [116,117], energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) [118], X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) [119] and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) [120].…”

“…The most common other modifications of Ag 2 O NP synthesis are NP coating with polymers, Ag 2 O NP inclusion into other nanocomposites or fusion with NPs of oxides of other elements and NP synthesis in the medium of a substrate of the biological origin-most often an extract of plant leaves (Figure 1c) [34,47,118].…”

“…Conversely, green biosynthetic methods that use natural products as both reducing and capping agents have emerged as alternative synthesis routes. The green synthesis of nanomaterials has generated a great interest as it provides a simple, cost-effective, readily scalable, and eco-friendly products with minimal toxicity towards human beings 1215. Natural products are used extensively as reducing as well as capping agents to prevent the agglomeration and increase the stability of the synthesized NPs 16–18.…”

“…The FT-IR analysis was done in the range of 400–4000 cm –1 to report the constituent functional groups found in the synthesized ZnO nanoparticles, as shown in Figure a. The reference to identify the absorption peaks were with respect to the standardized IR spectrum table . In the case of the biosynthesized ZnO nanoparticles from the pericarp extract of T.…”
