Biosynthesis, characterisation and antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles using Hibiscus rosa‐sinensis petals extracts

Abstract: Green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles has lured the world from the chemical and physical approaches owing to its rapid, non-hazardous and economic aspect of production mechanism. In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesised using petal extracts of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. The AgNPs displayed characteristic surface plasmon resonance peak at around 421 nm having a mean particle size of 76.25±0.17 nm and carried a charge of -41±0.2 mV. The X-ray diffraction patterns displayed typical peaks of f… Show more

“…Both the petal extract mediated AgNPs displayed good bactericidal activity against Gram-negative bacteria compared to Gram-positive bacteria. 43,314 The size of the synthesized nanoparticle plays a vital role in the bactericidal activity test. Smaller the size of the nanoparticle greater is the surface available to adhere to the microorganisms, which led to the change in the Physicochemical properties of the bacterial cell and nally led to bacterial cell damage.…”

“…X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) was applied for phase identification of the Cu Kα radiation (1.5405 Å) of the AgNPs (Philips PANanalytical X'Pert XRD System (model # 3040), Amsterdam, The Netherlands) [57,64]. The antibacterial activity of biosynthesized B. tomentosa Linn flower-powder extractderived AgNPs was investigated against Gram-negative (E. coli) and Gram-positive (S. aureus) bacterial pathogens using agar disk diffusion [28,56,61,65,66]. Briefly, a nutrient agar medium was prepared in a Petri dish and the bacterial cultures were swabbed on test media with a sterile cotton swab.…”
