Biomimetic coating with phosphoserine‐tethered poly(epsilon‐lysine) dendrons on titanium surfaces enhances Wnt and osteoblastic differentiation

Abstract: The findings of the present study show that phosphoserine-tethered poly(epsilon-lysine) dendron films act as stimuli for the activation of specific signal cascades and promote the differentiation of adhering progenitor cells into an osteoblastic phenotype.

“…To conclude, findings of this study shows that G3 PSL-PL can act as stimulation for initiation of osteogenic signalling cascades in-vitro and stimulate differentiation of mesenchymal cells into osteoblasts. Thus, in vivo testing might help to use these films as novel coatings to enhance the process of osseointegration and prevent implant failures [106].…”

“…It also stimulates its downstream pathways that result in affecting several osteogenic processes including not only osteoblast attachment and differentiation but also cell maturation and apoptosis [ 48 ]. Moreover, the pathway has also been reported to promote both mineral deposition in ECM and the repair of tissue defect [ 49 , 50 ]. The proteins of β-Catenin and Gsk3β are key proteins in the canonical Wnt/β-catenin pathway.…”

“…To achieve this goal, it has been proposed to coat biomaterials with molecular cues that are specific to cell adhesion or tissue repair. 19 The ECM is the three-dimensional scaffold that contains cells and supplies biochemical signals that are essential to regulate their behavior and function. [20][21][22][23] The ECM is composed of structural proteins such as collagen, and signaling molecules such as growth factors sequestered in the matrix.…”
