Sicydiinae gobies have been widely collected and identified throughout tropical indo-pacific, except in Karama River, Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Indonesia. Penja was the Gobi fish’s local name, where the pelvic disc is adherent to the belly. This study aims to describe the habitat and growth patterns of genus Sicyopterus in Karama river, which passes through three sub-districts from upstream to downstream. The research was conducted in Karama River from four sites: Kalumpang, Bonehau, Arassi, and Kalonding. Fish growth was described by Deroberts and William model, and continued with habitat characteristics. The total number of fish from four sites about 71 adults Gobiidae fish, identified as family Gobiidae: Sicyopterus longifilis and Sicyopterus pugnans. The average growth pattern in all sites is isometric negative (b<3), except in the Kalumpang sites, growth pattern for Sicyopterus longifilis is isometric (b=3) whereas in Sicyopterus pugnans in the Kalumpang sites growth pattern is positive allometric (b>3).

The fish composition of the three study sites of the reservoir were studied over a period of fifteen months (January, 2020 – March, 2021). A total of twenty-eight (28) fish species emanating from fourteen (14) families were obtained. The family Cichlidae was the dominant family with Oreochromis niloticus being the most abundant fish species while family Malapteruridae was the least with only 0.088% of the total abundance. Biodiversity indices of the study sites such as species richness ranges from 2.79-3.28, while species evenness ranged between 0.73 to 0.84, and diversity index revealed a range of 2.23-2.65. The Dadin-Kowa Reservoir has a rich ichthyofaunal composition which is facing challenges of structural collapse unless if management strategies are fully adopted. The host communities should be made integral components of aquatic resources management team. And other means of livelihood should be made attractive to reduce pressure on aquatic resources and deter possible biodiversity depressions.

Basic information on length–weight relationships for a number of small indigenous tropical freshwater fish species is still sparse or not available on the FishBase. The present study reports the weight–length relationships of four species from the Ganga River in India. A total of 795 fresh fish specimens of Pethia gelius, Corica soborna, Parambassis baculis and Aborichthys elongatus were collected from four different locations along stretches of the Ganga River from June 2017 to August 2018. The r2 and b values for the four fish species ranged from 0.949 to 0.998 and 2.55 to 2.849, respectively. Length–weight relationships for P. gelius, P. baculis and A. elongatus represent the first information from the Ganga River. A new record for the maximum size of C. soborna was documented as 8.54 cm TL and 4.25 g.
