“…The promising supportive adjuvant actions contributed from the composition of the 3 ingredients in Vilac Plus ® plus the microorganism used in the fermentation that should be recognized as a probiotic is a key component in the biotechnological production. The herbal ingredients of the mushroom, widely recognized in world literature, Ling Zhi (Ganoderma lucidum) or Reishi, has been found to contain 119 different terpinoids, about 80 of which biologically active (Van der Hem 1995; Kim et al, 1999). The possibility to have a supportive role in cancer treatment appears to be immunomodulation by protection DNA damage of normal cells through its powerful antioxidant mechanism and inhibition of tumor necrosis factor (TNF).…”

“…In (Tables 7 and 8), [19][20][21] the mushroom based preparation Phytoderm TM , was effective (95%) in the treatment of opportunistic cutaneous mycosis among HIV/AIDS patients in Cameroon, Central Africa [22][23][24]. The successful treatment of a number of Kaposi sarcoma cases [22][23][24], shingles is also promising, and this is the first report in the use of mushroom flora of Cameroon to attend to skin cancer [25][26][27][28]. The conclusion is drawn that these macro fungi [29,30] medicated cosmetics offer a comparatively cheaper safer and effective approach in managing skin disease in sub-Saharan Africa and more detail focus screening [31] for full exploitation is recommended.…”

“…Triterpenes/triterpenoids are bitter components of Lingzhi that have received considerable attention owing to their wellknown pharmacological activities [15]. Since the first isolation of two new bitter triterpenes, ganoderic acids A and B, from the dried epidermis of G. lucidum in 1982 by Kubota et al [16], more than 130 oxygenated triterpenes (mostly lanostane-type triterpenes) have subsequently been isolated from the fruiting bodies, spores, mycelia and culture media of Lingzhi [15,17].…”

It should be noted that Lingzhi is the only known source of these bioactive ganoderic acids.…”
