Biology and integrated management of tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura Fab.: A systematic review

Abstract: Tobacco caterpillar (Spodoptera litura) has damaged in great extent in different cultivated crops. Mainly it affects solanaceous crops. It feeds on the leaves of the crop and crops seems as it is fed by the animals. In later stage it damages whole plant causing rotting of plant. Commercial farmers are normally relying on chemical pesticides. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy is suggested as a best option of pest management. Using respective trap crop of major crops has been found most effective method … Show more

“…The severity of yield loss caused by S. litura can vary based on several aspects, including the stage of plant development, crop species, and pest population density. In severe situations, yield loss might reach as high as 50 percent or more, inflicting significant financial damage on farmers [2,3].…”

“…The larval feeding activities result in considerable economic losses for farmers, and the severity of these losses varies based on factors such as plant growth stage, crop type, and pest population density. In severe cases, yield losses can exceed 50%, leading to significant financial setbacks for farmers (Natikar and Balikai, 2015;Sharma et al, 2022).…”
