Biological properties of butanol extracts from green pine cone of Pinus densiflora

Abstract: This study examined the biological functions of the butanol extracts of green pine cones (GPCs) that had not ripened completely. The butanol extracts of GPC showed 78.22% DPPH-scavenging activity, 53.55% TEAC and 71.50% hyaluronidase (HAase) inhibition activity. They also exhibited inhibition activity against food poisoning microorganisms. The contents of total phenolic compounds and total flavonoids were 296.75 and 26.07 mg/g, respectively. Biologically active compounds were analyzed and separated using HPLC … Show more

“…Traditionally, Pinus densiflora have been used for alternative medicine in East Asia such as Korea, China and Japan to treat gastroenteric trouble, hypertension and asthma (Bae, 2000). Recently, mechanisms for various biological activities of pinus densiflora have been studied (Kwak et al, 2006;Lee et al, 2018). However, Pinus densiflora is not well studied of anti-cancer effect in gastric cancer.…”

“…This high-molecular-weight polymer is a component of ECM that provides viscoelasticity, and plays a crucial role in preventing skin aging by reducing wrinkles and keeping the skin smooth and hydrated (Necas et al 2008;Miri et al 2014). Hyaluronidase is a mucopolysaccharide-degrading enzyme that hydrolyses the β-1,4-glycosidic bonds of HA and induces a decrease in its viscosity (Necas et al 2008;Moon et al 2009;Lee et al, 2018). Thus, elastase and hyaluronidase inhibitors can be useful in preventing aging in skin.…”
