Biological activity exerted by omega-3 fatty acids on body mass index, glucose, total cholesterol and blood pressure in obese children

Abstract: Background: Obesity is risk factor to development cardiovascular diseases. There are several studies which indicate that fatty acids can exert changes in body fat in children. However, the results found relatively are few and have generally been conducted over short time periods with small sample sizes, making it difficult to draw definitive conclusions. Objective: In this study the effect induced by omega-3 fatty acids on some biological parameters such as glucose, total cholesterol and body mass index levels … Show more

“…Furthermore, extracts of Group 2 (Table S5), mostly obtained by UAE at a high US power and solvent/material ratio, can result in an extract with combined biological activities due to their significant content of carotenoids (improving eye health, immune-modulating properties, anti-allergic, anti-aging, and sun-protective activity) [13,54], choline (enhancing brain health and cognitive function, affecting detoxification pathways and organs, such as the liver and kidneys) [55][56][57], myo-inositol (promoting female fertility, treating polycystic ovary syndrome, reducing anxiety, and restoring insulin resistance) [58][59][60], and unsaturated fatty acids (health-promoting agents against fat burning, affecting inflammation, steroid signaling, and membrane-bound protein functions, participating in glucose/lipid metabolism) [61][62][63].…”

“…Obesitatea eta intsulinarekiko erresistentzia zeuzkaten umeekin egindako entseguetan adiponektinaren maila igotzea eta inflamazio egoera nahiz intsulinarekiko erresistentzia jaistea lortu zen omega-3 gantz gehigarrien bidez [82]. Omega-3-en bidez gorputz-masa, tentsio arteriala eta kolesterol maila jaisten dira [83]. Gainera, omega-3 GAk aktibitate fisikoarekin konbinatzen zituzten umeek triglizerido eta intsulinarekiko erresistentzia ebaluatzeko probaren (HOMA) mailak aktibitate fisikoa egiten zutenek baino gehiago jaistea lortu zuten [84].…”

“…Garcia-Cervera et al in their study showed that intake diet of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids decreased body mass index and cholesterol in a dose-dependent approach. 50 Preliminary data suggests that Fibrates may also be potentially useful to decrease dyslipidemia. 51 Niacin is the most effective HDL enhancer and is suggested only as adjunctive therapy in children under supervision of a lipid specialist.…”
