Biological Activity and Bio-Sorption Properties of the Ti2C Studied by Means of Zeta Potential and SEM

Abstract: The expanded Ti 2 C MXene phase was synthesized from the commercial Ti 2 AlC MAX phase using classical acidic aluminium extraction method. The individual expanded Ti 2 C sheets were characterized by the diameters of between 26 and 61 nm and formed the specific network of slit-shaped pores in the size range of 3-5 nm. The BET specific surface area of expanded Ti 2 C was ca. 42% higher in comparison with layered Ti 2 AlC. Our investigations results revealed that both Ti 2 AlC and Ti 2 C phases did not influence … Show more

“…Ti 2 C MXene. 7,8 Many studies have considered different modications of MXenes' surfaces, which were carried out in order to tailor their specic chemical activities. The surface-modications with nanoparticles that have been introduced for MXenes include: SnO 2 , 9,10 TiO 2 , [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] Nb 2 O 5 , 13 Cu 2 O, 19,20 Rh, 21 Ru, 22 bimetallic Ru/Ni 23 or Co/Ni, 24 Mn 3 O 4 , 25 MnO 2 , 26 Sb 2 O 3 , 27 NiO 2 , 28 the transition metals Fe, Co, and Ni, 29 and Ni/Al hydroxide.…”

“…The measurement of the electrochemical (zeta) potential of the filtrates helped evaluate the electrostatic interactions between the solution and the particles (e.g., bacteria cells), including the effects of the bacterial adsorption on the surface charge of bacterial cells [ 59 ]. The bacteria applied in the filtration experiment— E. coli and S. aureus , possess a negative zeta potential in drinking water (~−40 and −17 mV, respectively) [ 60 ]. The zeta potentials measured correspond to the bacterial cells that remained in the filtrate samples.…”

“…Subject to calculation resources, first-principles method is more suitable for studying the adsorption behaviors of small molecular adsorbates on MXenes, but is difficult for large and complex species. For example, experiments have confirmed the excellent adsorption behaviors of organic dyes [40,41,42,43] or even bacterium [44,45,46] on MXenes. However, first-principles based theoretical studies for the adsorption behaviors of these complex systems on MXenes are not yet reported.…”
