Biogenic Selenium Nanoparticles for Their Therapeutic Application

Abstract: Biosynthesis is an eloquent, safe, biocompatible, eco-friendly, and recyclable way of preparing selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs). Selenium occurs in multiple oxidation states, for example, +6, +4, 0, or −2. Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element with a very narrow margin between the lowest acceptable levels of intake and toxicity. Selenium is an essential trace element required for all living organisms. Despite its essentiality, selenium is a potentially toxic element to natural ecosystems due to its bioacc… Show more

“…Synthesized by the methods of bionanotechnology SeNP has many applications in the field of medical and pharmaceutical research. Selenium nanoparticles having oncosuppressive, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity are used in biology, medicine, agriculture (Bityutskyy et al, 2019;Tsekhmistrenko et al, 2019Akçay & Avcı, 2020;Kumar et al, 2020). Song et al (2017) synthesized biogenic nanoselenium nanoparticles (BNSe) with the participation of Enterobacter cloacae Z0206 bacteria, with the help of which sodium selenite was transformed into spherical selenium nanoparticles with a stabilizing protein shell, the particle size of which varied from 80 to 250 nm (on average 139.4 ± 7.4 nm).…”
