Biocompatible capped iron oxide nanoparticles for Vibrio cholerae detection

Abstract: We report the studies relating to fabrication of an efficient immunosensor for Vibrio cholerae detection. Magnetite (iron oxide (Fe(3)O(4))) nanoparticles (NPs) have been synthesized by the co-precipitation method and capped by citric acid (CA). These NPs were electrophoretically deposited onto indium-tin-oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrate and used for immobilization of monoclonal antibodies against Vibrio cholerae (Ab) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) for Vibrio cholerae detection using an electrochemical techn… Show more

“…FESEM images of IO, CIO, CIOLAg, and CIOMAg are shown in Figure and their respective EDX analyses are shown in Figure S3a, Supporting Information. The FESEM image of IO exhibits the formation of clusters possibly arising due to the tendency of aggregation of the magnetic NPs . The capping of IO by chitosan in CIO nanohybrids results in the reduction in the size of these clusters (Figure b).…”

“…The FESEM image of IO exhibits the formation of clusters possibly arising due to the tendency of aggregation of the magnetic NPs. 5 The capping of IO by chitosan in CIO nanohybrids results in the reduction in the size of these clusters (Figure 5b). It possibly occurs due to the supramolecular interactions involving the functionalities of chitosan and IO NPs, and thereby enhancing the repulsion among the IO NPs.…”

“…Citrate-coated magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (CA-MIONs) were synthesized via a co-precipitation method [ 41 , 52 ]. 0.75 g of FeCl 3 ·6H 2 O and 0.375 g of FeCl 2 ·4H 2 O were dissolved in 50 mL of distilled water and mixed at 80 °C under nitrogen atmosphere in a 100 mL three-neck flask equipped with a reflux condenser.…”
