Abstract: The development of multifunctional nanoscale systems that can mediate efficient tumor targeting, together with high cellular internalization, is crucial for the diagnosis of glioma. The combination of imaging agents into one platform provides dual imaging and allows further surface modification with targeting ligands for specific glioma detection. Herein, transferrin (Tf)-decorated niosomes with integrated magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONs) and quantum dots (QDs) were formulated (PEGNIO/QDs/MIONs/Tf) fo… Show more

“…Quantum dots and magnetic iron oxide-loaded nanoparticles were loaded niosomes decorated with transferrin. In-vitro imaging studies for the developed dual-targeting system showed improved fluorescence intensity and negative-contrast enhancement effect on glioma cells representing its promising dual-targeting imaging niosome platform (Ag Seleci et al., 2021 ). Some other studies carried out on dual-targeting strategies for a brain tumor are shown in Table 1 .…”

“…To prepare AuNPs/Fe x O y NPs/NIO/Tf, the conjugation of Tf to DSPE-PEG (2000) maleimide was performed analogously as reported previously. 59 Traut's reagent (50 nmol) and Tf (10 nmol) were suspended in HEPES EDTA buffer (500 μL) at pH 8.5 (30 mM HEPES and 0.1 mM EDTA). The thiolation of Tf was completed after incubating for 2 h at room temperature.…”

“…S6 †) similar to the results reported in other works. 59,92 Since the synthesized hybrid niosomes will be primarily used for the detection of living breast cancer cells, particularly uncontrolled necrotic signal cascades should be avoided. Hence, cytotoxicity studies were carried out using MCF-7 breast cancer cells (Fig.…”
