“…It follows, therefore, that the status of the endogenous respiration may differ with each exogenous substrate and so no one calculation can be used for correcting the values obtained when resting cells act on a variety of substrates in an individual Warburg run. This problem was recognized by Blumenthal et al (1957) and discussed by them at some length. The present work was undertaken in anl effort to determine the cellular constituents which serve as reserve materials and which are utilized when resting cells of P. aeruginosa respire endogenously.…”
