Biochemical properties of the fibrinogen component of a fibrin glue before and after severe dry heat treatment

Abstract: Functional biochemical properties of 5 batches of the fibrinogen component of a fibrin glue produced by the ZLB Central Laboratory, Bern, each consisting of 4 different in-process samples (taken after the first and second precipitation step, lyophilization, and dry-heat treatment) were studied in vitro. We focused our attention on the effect of the anti-viral treatment of the lyophilized product by dry heat for 1 h at 100 degrees C. A slight reduction in maximal turbidity of all heat-treated samples was observ… Show more

“…6 Fibrin scaffolds are formed when two components derived from blood plasma come together (thrombin and fibrinogen) to build a specific matrix that offers a good environment for chondrocytes to proliferate. 8,16,17 Injuries to the medial femoral condyle generally obtained better results, after a 3-year follow up, than those in the lateral condyle, but not than those in the patella. 18 In our study, we had results similar to those in the literature.…”

“…6 Os arcabouços de fibrina são formados por dois componentes derivados do plasma sanguíneo (trombina e fibrinogênio) que, juntos, constroem uma matriz específica que oferece bom ambiente para a proliferação de condrócitos. 8,16,17 As lesões no côndilo femoral medial tenderam a apresentar resultados melhores após 3 anos de acompanhamento do que as do côndilo lateral, mas não as da patela. 18 Nosso estudo obteve resultados semelhantes aos da literatura.…”

“…The two FG types have different preservation requirements when freeze-dried, and also for preservation period and temperature. Although only few reports describe the relationship between these requirements and fibrinogen activity, 10 12) as to what extent they derive from the methods by which FG is manufactured remains unclear. Since BP contains greater amount of thrombin, the viscosity of BP might be superior to that of BH, however, the viscosity test of solution A in this report was not related to thrombin.…”
