Bioactivity evaluation of three calcium silicate‐based endodontic materials

Abstract: Compared with Biodentine and WMTA, BC sealer showed less Ca ion release and did not show Ca and Si incorporation as deeply in human root canal dentine when immersed in PBS for up to 90 days.

“…The present findings indicated that the pushout bond strength values of BD were higher than AMTA and GCMTA. This could be attributed to the higher biomineralization ability of BD which might have triggered the formation of tag-like structures at the cement-dentine interface and increased the dislodgement resistance of BD as compared with MTA 21,22) . The higher content of calcium-releasing products in BD than in MTA may contribute to higher biomineralization and higher bond strength [22][23][24] .…”

“…In another study, Biodentine showed greater ability to produce apatite crystals and release of dental elements than MTA and BC sealer [40]. Luo Z et al, studied the effect of Biodentine on the human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) and found that biodentine significantly increased the proliferative, migratory and adhesion of stem cells when placed directly in contact with the pulp, which further reflects bioactivity and biocompatibility properties of the material.…”

“…In PBS the well-known Bioglass 45S5 revealed a net mass change of less than 0.2% over the 2 week test period. This mass change was suggested to be the result of counteracting reactions of dissolution and layer formation and therefore mass change was not indicative of the dissolution 54 .…”
