Bioactivities of nano-scale magnesium oxide prepared using aqueous extract of Moringa Oleifera leaves as green agent

Abstract: In this research, nano-size MgO (NS-MgO) was prepared from MgCl2 solution using aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves (AEMOL) as green agent. Preparation procedure involved mixing of MgCl2.6H2O solution and the AEMOL, followed by dropwise addition of NaOH solution. The formation of NS-MgO in this synthesis was confirmed using UV-Vis absorption. The spherical crystal structure of NS-MgO was confirmed by XRD analysis. The average particle size of the synthesised NS-MgO was found between 40–70 nm using scann… Show more

“…The free radical scavenging potential of the plant extract and prepared NPs were assessed using DPPH, according to Amrulloh et al [30] method. Briefly, the synthesized AuNPs solution (different volume 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 µl) was mixed with 1000 µl of DPPH (0.2 mM).…”

“…Several nanoscale metal oxides have also been observed to have antifungal properties. Nanoparticles of iron oxide [85][86][87][88], zinc oxide [89][90][91][92][93], magnesium oxide [93][94][95][96], calcium oxide [94,97], copper oxide [98][99][100], titanium dioxide [101][102][103][104], bismuth oxide [105,106], and silver oxide [107] display fungistatic and/or fungicidal activities that are useful in the treatment and prevention of oral candidiasis.…”

“…The extraction method refers to the research by previous literature [2,23] with some modifications. Fresh M. oleifera (leaves, twigs, stem barks, and wood) samples were washed using flowing water, dried under direct sunlight, and finally ground into a powder and stored at room temperature.…”

“…The extract M. oleifera was subjected to phytochemical analysis to detect the presence of alkaloids (Dragendroff's test) [24], flavonoids (colorimetric AlCl3 test) [25], saponins (Foam test) [25], carbohydrate (Anthrone test) [26], polyphenols (Puncal-D test) [27], proteins (Ninhydrin test) [27], amino acid (Millon's test) [28], phenolics (Follin-Ciocalteu test) [2], triterpene (Salkowski test) [29], and anthraquinones (Borntrager's test) [29]. The extract solution was further analyzed to determine its total phenolic content with Follin-Ciocalteu reagent [30] in which the results were shown as the equivalent of a microgram for milligram (μg mg −1 ) gallic acid (GAE).…”
