Bioactivities of Geranium wallichianum Leaf Extracts Conjugated with Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Abstract: This study attempts to obtain and test the bioactivities of leaf extracts from a medicinal plant, Geranium wallichianum (GW), when conjugated with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs). The integrity of leaf extract-conjugated ZnONPs (GW-ZnONPs) was confirmed using various techniques, including Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, energy-dispersive spectra (EDS), scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The size… Show more

“…This variation could be attributed to a difference in the amount of ZnO NPs or changes in cell density [ 55 ]. The results obtained herein are consistent with the previous studies that reported significant cytotoxicity of ZnO NPs to human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 [ 56 , 57 ], bronchial epithelial BEAS-2B , lung adenocarcinoma A549 [ 58 ], colon adenocarcinoma Caco-2 [ 20 ], breast MCF-7 and MDA [ 59 ] cancer cells.…”

“…Phytofabrication has flourished for the formation of several nanomaterials and has attracted the attention of the nano task force due to its sample, environmentally benign, and cost-effective nature [11][12][13][14]. In green synthesis, phytoconstituents (alkaloids, terpenoids, polyphenols, glycosides, flavanoids, proteins, vitamins, polysaccharides) function as a capping and reducing agent like different chemical substitutes used in the chemical synthesis of nanoparticles [15,16].…”

“…Nanoscience and nanotechnology as multidisciplinary fields provide breakthrough functions in plant and agriculture sciences [ 1 ]. Due to the unique and outstanding physicochemical properties of nanoparticles, the nano-compounds induce differential responses in biological systems compared to the bulk substances [ 1 3 ].…”
