“…that is often found in green, roasted and brewed coffee products was reduced by the use of an espresso coffee maker (49.8%), the drip-filter method (14.5%) or the moka brewing process (32.1%) [ 52 ]. In terms of roasting coffee, CF content was not affected, CGA was degraded due to a consequence of the temperature used in brewing, CA decreased in dark roasted coffee, while melanoidins and other Maillard reaction products were developed [ 53 ]. Importantly, the roasting of green coffee beans and the brewing of ground roasted coffee are important processes that are used to make varieties of bioactive, aromatic and popular coffee drinks.…”

“…Despite the fact that they are the two major active flavor ingredients in coffee, CA (6 and 10 mg/plate) and CGA (19 and 28 mg/plate), have been reported for their mutagenic properties in the L5178Y mouse lymphoma TK ÷/- assay. This was possibly due to the oxidative degradation and transformation of the two compounds to hydrogen peroxide at a neutral pH in the presence of a metal ion 2+ (such as Mn 2+ ) [ 85 ].Additionally, green and light roasted coffee extracts were found to promote higher inhibitory effects on the viability of PC-3 and DU-145 metastatic prostate cancer cell lines that had been assayed by the MTT test [ 53 ]. Moreover, green coffee beans containing CGAs and their derivatives showed anti-proliferative effects against U937, KB, MCF7 and WI38-VA cancer cell lines [ 68 ].…”

“…Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is a modern method of extracting compounds from plants while maintaining their structural and molecular properties [32] . Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) can rapidly heat the extract, accelerate the extraction process, and adsorb and desorb the target compound in the substrate [22] ; MAE has been widely used to extract various biologically active components, such as green and roasted coffee extracts [26] , GCO [38] , roasted coffee carbohydrates, caffeine, chlorogenic acid and coloured compounds [25] . Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) is known as accelerated solvent extraction and was first described in 1995 [9] .…”

“…In the last decade, numerous research groups have focused on the effect of coffee on tumors by conducting in vitro studies, to understand the bioactivities of this beverage in greater depth. Table 2 presents many of these in vitro studies, which have addressed a great diversity of cancer types, coffee varieties, degrees of roasting [ 5 , 19 , 30 , 31 ], and diverse effects including cell-cycle arrest, antiproliferative effects, and antiapoptotic and high antioxidant activities.…”

“…For example, studies on breast cancer cells focused on antiproliferative and antioxidant effects, cell-cycle arrest, induced apoptosis, regulation of gene expression, modulation of enzyme activity, and enhanced efficiency of cancer treatments [ 30 , 32 34 ]. Studies on prostate cancer cells reported antiproliferative effects, cell-cycle arrest, apoptosis, and high antioxidant capacity [ 5 , 19 , 31 , 32 ]. Research on kidney cancer cells found antiproliferative and antimigratory effects, EMT downregulation, and gene downregulation [ 35 ].…”
