Bio-Based Eucommia ulmoides Gum Composites with High Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Performance

Abstract: Herein, high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding bio-based composites were prepared by using EUG (Eucommia ulmoides gum) with a crystalline structure as the matrix and carbon nanotube (CNT)/graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) hybrids as the conductive fillers. The morphology of the CNT/GNP hybrids in the CNT/GNP/EUG composites showed the uniform distribution of CNTs and GNPs in EUG, forming a denser filler network, which afforded improved conductivity and EMI shielding effect compared with pure EU… Show more

“…Recently, many researches have focused on improving the performance of EUG materials with physical blending and chemical modifications. Nanoparticles and nanofibers can be introduced into the EUG matrix as a reinforcement to not only enhance mechanical properties but also endow EUG with novel functions including oil–water separation, electromagnetic interference shielding, and photothermal conversion . Compared with pure EUG materials, the tensile strength, elongation at break, and Young’s modulus of 4% nanocrystalline cellulose/EUG nanocomposites were increased by 93.8, 180.1, and 24.0%, respectively .…”

“…Various nanofillers are being applied to elastomers, such as carbon materials, including conductive carbon black, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene, nanosilica, metal oxides, hexagonal boron nitride, layered double hydroxide, transition metal dichalcogenide, and 2D transition metal carbon/nitrogen/carbon nitride (MXene) [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. Elastomers have shown diversity after composition with one or more nanomaterials [ 6 , 7 , 8 ].…”
