Binocular visual function after surgery for detached retina

Abstract: Binocular visual function after surgery for detached retina was examined in 100 patients with a visual acuity of less than 0.3 in the reattached retina and with a visual acuity of more than 1.0 in the non-detached retina: 1) There was no significant sex difference in binocular visual function. 2) There was no significant difference in binocular visual function according to postoperative interval. 3) Maintenance of postoperative binocular visual function was best in patients under 19 years of age, and grew wors… Show more

“…3,[27][28][29] Previous reports have indicated an association between visual acuity and stereopsis in normal subjects, [30][31][32] in patients who underwent macular hole surgery, 27 and in patients after retinal detachment surgery. 29,33 These results are consistent with our findings.…”

“…This indicates that initial visual acuity may be a prognostic factor for stereopsis after treatment. Stereopsis was correlated with visual acuity in patients after surgery for RD [29] and MH [20]. It is well known that stereopsis is related to visual acuity [7,10,11,30].…”

“…Stereopsis assessed by TST was associated with visual acuity in patients with MH. The relationship between visual acuity and stereopsis has been investigated in normal participants 26,27 and in patients who underwent surgery for MH 12,13 and RD 28 . Lam et al 29 reported a difference in visual acuity between the eyes as a cause of disturbance of stereopsis, while Burian 30 reported that stereopsis deteriorated with worsening visual acuity in one eye.…”
