Bimagrumab improves body composition and insulin sensitivity in insulin‐resistant individuals

Abstract: Aim: To test the hypothesis that an improving body composition in insulin-resistant individuals could enhance insulin sensitivity. Methods: A total of 16 people with a mean body mass index of 29.3 kg/m 2 and insulin resistance, received a single dose of bimagrumab or placebo and were assessed at week 10 for insulin sensitivity, using a hyperinsulinaemic-euglycaemic clamp and an intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT), and for body composition using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry and positron-emission tomog… Show more

“…Mild acne was noted in subjects treated with bimagrumab regardless of sex, and in no subjects on placebo, consistent with the observations in other clinical trials with bimagrumab . All cases were responsive to local treatment of good skin hygiene and resolved within the EOS.…”

“…Mild acne was noted in subjects treated with bimagrumab regardless of sex, and in no subjects on placebo, consistent with the observations in other clinical trials with bimagrumab. 3,26,27 All cases were responsive to local treatment of good skin hygiene and resolved within the EOS. Analysing the pathogenesis of acne and the putative effects of activin on the skin, we focused on the increased sebum production mediated by androgens: the absence of changes in androgen levels, whether basal or stimulated, whether from adrenal or gonadal origin, indicates that acne, in bimagrumab-treated subjects, is not due to hyperandrogenism that is detectable in the circulation.…”
