“…Some research on the multi-user system using immersive virtual reality (VR) is reported for the reason that it enables a user to understand 3D information intuitively. Kieferle et al (2015) proposed a 3D information sharing method for multiple users who are in the same location by using a high-resolution projector such as Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) and projecting a BIM model by full scale. Du et al (2018) developed a multi-user system to share a BIM model using VR-HMDs in the same location.…”

“…On the other hand, it was found out that there are two major approaches to achieve the integration of VR to BIM: (a) Integrating BIM data to Game Engines (Yan et al 2011), (Merschbrock et al 2014), (Edwards et al 2015) and (Hilfert et al 2016) and (b) Using a customized pipeline to render BIM in VR (Johansson et al 2014), (Kieferle and Woessner 2015) and (Johansson et al 2015). While each of them have their own pros and cons, using Game engines as the VR end of the pipeline entails advantages in terms of in-built handling of the graphics optimizations and user-interactions with the VR system, (Edwards et al 2015) presents an extensive argument for adopting game engines for integrating BIM and VR.…”

“…During the runtime of a BIM-VR system, it is imperative to access Revit API for all the geometric and parametric information to be able to establish a bidirectional data exchange. In solving this issue, (Kieferle and Woessner 2015) present a novel approach by decoupling Revit from the Virtual Environment renderer, in their case OpenCOVER.…”

“…BIM has also become a very widely discussed research topic, what can be proved by the presence of the theme at conferences such as CAAD Futures, ACADIA, SIGRADI, CAADRIA and eCAADe. A variety of related papers can be given as examples: from the focus on BIM in education (Vinšová et al 2014) and a novel approach to combine BIM and VR (Kieferle and Woessner 2015), through the application of BIM in digital reconstructions of heritage objects (Boeykens et al 2012), to programming for the enrichment of BIM capabilities (Sharif and Gentry 2015). What is more, there are many other conferences and symposia focusing on BIM entirely, gathering people from academia and practice with an ample industry involvement.…”
