Improvements in the science of health monitoring and maintenance have facilitated the observation of damage and defects in existing structures and infrastructures, such as bridges and railways. The need to extend sensing technology through the use of wireless sensors as well as the lack of description tools for understanding, visualizing, and documenting sensor outputs has encouraged researchers to use powerful tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems. BIM has become important because of conducting tools widely used in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry to present and manage information on structural systems and situations. Since combining health monitoring and maintenance results with BIM models is a new field of study, and most projects utilize various aspects of it, we have conducted a review of important work related to this subject published from 2010 to November of 2020. After reviewing 278 journal articles, research trends, approaches, methods, gaps, and future agenda related to BIM in monitoring and maintenance were highlighted. This paper, through a bibliometric and content analysis, concludes that besides main improvements, some limitations now exist which affect the modeling and maintenance process. These limitations are related to extending the IFC schema, optimizing sensor data, interoperability among various BIM platforms, optimization of various sensing technologies for fault detection and management of huge amounts of data, besides consideration of environmental effects on monitoring hazards and underground objects. Finally, this paper aims to help to solve the mentioned limitation through a comprehensive review of existing research.

ResumoOs modelos BIM são maioritariamente gerados e usados no contexto do projeto e construção. Contudo, a informação que contêm é cada vez mais utilizada na gestão dos edifícios e cidade. Este trabalho descreve o desenvolvimento de ferramentas baseadas em modelos BIM que são enquadradas no conceito de Smart City. Estas aplicações contêm informação geométrica e funcional da construção e trocam dados com outras fontes tal como sensores ambientais, de consumo de energia ou água ou com os responsáveis técnicos e utilizadores, tornando-se em Gémeos Digitais/Digital Twins. São apresentadas duas aplicações onde são usados modelos BIM de pequena e grande escala como suporte de visualização e interação com os utilizadores. Em ambas são feitas integrações de informação de várias origens que são integradas numa plataforma agregadora. Nestas aplicações o modelo BIM é uma das peças do sistema que compreende sensores, bases de dados, algoritmos de filtragem e tratamento de dados, sendo por isso necessário recorrer a técnicas de extração, compatibilização de informação de várias fontes e apresentação ao utilizador em suportes acessíveis, o que aponta caminhos para a utilização do BIM em novos cenários.

River water quality monitoring is very important since river water is also used as a source of fresh water besides for agricultural and farming purposes. Manual river water quality monitoring which is done by taking river water samples in a period of time and analyzing it in the laboratory has limitations in that the actual condition of river water could not be monitored continuously. The objective of this article is to monitor the physico-chemical parameters of river water including potential of Hydrogen (pH), temperature, and Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) continuously in a distance. As a prototype, the proposed architecture facilitates the river water quality could be monitored from a long distance far away from the river location as from the government office building. The proposed system consists of data acquisition part, base station part, wireless data communication system, and cloud for storing and displaying measured parameters. The proposed system was implemented by using two LoRa32u4 boards, a NodeMCU board, and blynk cloud platform. Compared to the commercial measuring instrument, the laboratory scale testing results showed that the measurements of the proposed system have the average measurement difference ( p  ) of 0.2%, 0.7%, and 4.4% for TDS, pH and temperature respectively. The proposed system was tested in an actual field where the data acquisition part was located at the river in Ngawi regency while the base station part was placed 100 m apart. The actual field test results showed that the proposed system was able to measure all three water parameters consistently.
