BIM for sustainable project delivery: review paper and future development areas

Abstract: The evolution of Building Information Modelling (BIM) is transforming practice in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. BIM provided revolutionary ways of generating, visualizing, exchanging, predicting and monitoring information. Over the last decade, delivering sustainable projects has become a high priority along with the recognition of the role the BIM plays to improve efficiency. However, BIM-enabled sustainability practices are still relatively immature and inconsistent. Previous… Show more

“…Their high mobility and low costs make UAVs a suitable tool for seismic risk assessment, disaster response and flood monitoring [62]. Additional applications are construction progress tracking, surveying and mapping [65]. During construction, the use of small-scale robotics for on-site fabrication of concrete structures allows for a higher level of variation and differentiation without geometric simplification, standardization and repetition.…”

“…Mô hình BIM bao gồm thông tin về hình dạng và các khía cạnh khác của công trình [10]. Các ứng dụng của BIM đã được ghi nhận đầy đủ [11,12] và đang mở rộng sang quản lý dự án xây dựng [13][14][15]. Ban đầu, BIM được sử dụng để giảm bớt khó khăn trong quá trình thiết kế bằng cách hình thành các mô hình xây dựng 3D ảo cho phép hiển thị các đối tượng xây dựng.…”

“…e resulting building information model is a data-rich, object-based, intelligent, and parametric digital representation of the facility, embedded with detailed information for current and future construction projects [6] from which views appropriate to various users' needs can be extracted and analyzed to generate feedback and improvement of the facility design. BIM provides revolutionary ways of generating, visualizing, exchanging, predicting, and monitoring information [7]; it improves collaboration among different stakeholders such as planners, designers, structural engineers, construction managers, and field workers, and it ultimately improves the performance and quality of construction products [8]. Generally, BIM can be used at every construction project phase for visualization, change management, code reviews, collision detection, fabrication, communication and collaboration, and facility management [9][10][11].…”
