“…Of these 93 cases, 14 were part of a review of the literature11 and therefore were omitted leaving only 79 clinical cases listed in isolation. There are mainly three large studies: by Tugal-Tutkun et al3 in Turkey and Belgium in 2011 (26 cases), by Kreps et al12 in Belgium in 2017 (12 cases), and by Tranos et al13 in Greece in 2018 (16 cases). The other articles report mainly isolated cases of BAIT syndrome.…”

“…Nevertheless, according to World Health Organization criteria, the relationship between fluoroquinolone therapy and uveitis is considered “possible”, as observed in a retrospective analysis of 40 cases of uveitis found in the literature. 11 In the majority of cases, systemic administration of moxifloxacin is reported prior to the onset of BAIT syndrome 2,1113,18,19. And Kawali et al reported 2 cases of BAIT with a history of topical use of fluoroquinolones.…”

“…Most of the studies noted a correlation with the oral administration of antibiotics such as moxifloxacin and clarithromycin. Tranos P et al [2] published a series of 16 cases with previous administration of systemic moxifloxacin (13 patients) or clarithromycin (3 patients), the antibiotic given to our patient. Eleven out of 16 patients were first time users of moxifloxacin or clarithromycin.…”

“…Pigment showering is severe during the first few weeks following symptom onset and declines over time. 13 As the pigment dispersion starts to clear, diffuse iris transillumination and irregularly mydriatic pupils that are poorly responsive or unresponsive to light become apparent and higher IOP levels are measured. Iris transillumination and mydriasis may increase with continued pigment circulation, pigment dusting on the corneal endothelium and on the surface of the lens is seen, posterior synechiae may develop, and IOP rise may become uncontrollable with antiglaucoma medications.…”
