Big data analytics in healthcare: a systematic literature review

Abstract: The current study performs a systematic literature review (SLR) to synthesise prior research on the applicability of big data analytics (BDA) in healthcare. The SLR examines the outcomes of 41 studies, and presents them in a comprehensive framework. The findings from this study suggest that applications of BDA in healthcare can be observed from five perspectives, namely, health awareness among the general public, interactions among stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem, hospital management practices, treatm… Show more

“…A study was considered for inclusion in the review if (a) it investigated some aspect of the consumers' use of green hotels' products, services or practices, including the intention to adopt, willingness to pay a premium, loyalty intention and WOM intention, among others. Furthermore, studies addressing both intention and actual behaviour were included; (b) studies across all years were also considered, with no filter placed according to the year of publication; (c) only studies in the English language were included to avoid language bias (Khanra et al, 2020); (d) studies needed to be empirical in nature and (e) all studies needed to be peer reviewed.…”

“…However, the authors do not report the methodology adopted for the review and report few details from the reviewed studies, unlike other SLRs, which include more extensive reporting of research and profiles (e.g. Talwar et al , 2020b; Dhir et al , 2020; Khanra et al , 2020). In contrast, we use the SLR methodology, which is considered to be more robust due to its consideration of stringent article selection criteria (Behera et al , 2019; Dhir et al , 2020) and more detailed reporting of the findings, as well as the research profile.…”
