Bidding Strategy for Aggregators of Electric Vehicles in Day-Ahead Electricity Markets

Abstract: Abstract:To make full use of the flexible charging and discharging capabilities of the growing number of electric vehicles (EVs), a bidding strategy for EV aggregators to participate in a day-ahead electricity energy market is proposed in this work. The proposed bidding strategy is able to reduce the operating cost of the EV aggregators and to handle the uncertainties of day-ahead market prices properly at the same time. Agreements between the EV owners and the aggregators are discussed, and a hierarchical mar… Show more

“…1 All the charging loads of EVs at the charging stations or charging facilities that are connected to one bus are grouped into one load, and the ACE for each bus is evaluated in our model. 2 EVs are divided into the following four categories in this paper: Electric buses, taxies, private cars, and social vehicles (mainly referring to rental cars). Each type of vehicle is affiliated with a corresponding charging rate.…”

“…The rapid development of electric vehicles (EVs) has received extensive attention [1][2][3], due to their great potential for saving energy, and reducing emissions. The ever-increasing penetration of EV charging demand has been observed in many actual power distribution systems.…”

“…Vehicle to grid (V2G), or the discharge of vehicle batteries to the grid, has also been proposed as a way to further increasing their benefits by replacing peak generation [7,8]. Effective strategies have been developed for the participation of aggregated vehicle fleets with V2G in the electricity markets [9].…”

“…As such, historic (or other) sources of energy price can be used for optimisation, which can be updated in real time to reflect actual prices. All the methods for optimising V2G discussed so far considered the problem from the perspective of other stakeholders such as the aggregators or retailers [34,35]. There is the need to develop a prosumer-focused charging schedule that will allow for more flexibility and profit for the vehicle owner.…”
