Bibliometric and Visual Analysis of Vascular Calcification Research

Abstract: Background: Extensive studies related to vascular calcification (VC) were conducted in recent years. However, no bibliometric analysis has systematically investigated this topic. Our study aimed to determine the hotspots and frontiers of VC research in the past decade and provide a reference for future scientific research directions and decision-making in the VC field. Methods: VC studies were acquired from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric and visual analyses were performed using CiteSpace, VOSv… Show more

“…Although a quantitative overview could be conducted through many approaches, such as traditional review, systematic review, main path analysis, evidence map, and bibliometrics ( 22 ), only bibliometrics could qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the contribution and cooperation of authors, institutions, countries, and journals and evaluate the knowledge base and trending research topics at the same time ( 23 , 24 ).…”

“…Therefore, a bibliometric analysis was performed for scientists to systematically review the nephrotoxicity research studies. Bibliometric analysis ( Chen, 2004 ) is used to track developments and explore particular areas of knowledge in medicine fields ( Lu et al, 2020 ; Dong et al, 2021 ; Huang et al, 2021 ; Zhu et al, 2021 ) using CiteSpace ( Chen, 2006 ) and VOSviewer ( Waltman, 2007 ) software. Notably, we intended to visually analyze nephrotoxicity research hotspots through the bibliometric approach to make suggestions and further perspective.…”

“…First, continuous updating of the changes in the database might have led to variations between search results and the number of actual publications included. Second, considering that the WoSCC database is one of the most extensive and well-recognized global resources ( 17 , 47 ), the information on these publications was only from WoSCC, so some publications from other databases may have been missed. Third, the omission of books/chapters/letters and the consideration of articles published in English alone may have led to some biases in our analyses.…”
