Bibliometric analysis of road traffic injuries research in the Gulf Cooperation Council region

Abstract: Background: Despite governmental interventions, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region continues to experience higher road traffic crash and fatality rates relative to Western nations. This trend suggests a potential disconnect between Road Traffic Injuries (RTI) research and the mitigation measures put in place. Method: Here, we present an in-depth bibliometric analysis to obtain a comprehensive understanding of RTI research in the GCC region. The Web of Science database was used to search and retrieve the… Show more

“…It is a science mapping technique that presents data on researchers on the topic, their affiliated institutions, journals, countries, collaboration networks and themes using statistics and visualisation techniques. Studies that have used a similar technique include works on road safety injuries [33], road safety education [34] and accident analysis and prevention [35]. In this paper, the bibliometric analysis is presented, firstly, as a performance analysis, which is descriptive, and secondly as scientific mapping, which largely visualises various relationships [32].…”

“…The second type of bibliometric study includes science mapping analysis, which evaluates a research field's cognitive and social structure (Small, 1999 ). Visualization of Similarities (VOS) viewer is a software tool specifically designed for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks (van Eck & Waltman, 2010 ) and has been widely used in science mapping studies (Butt et al, 2020 ; Farooq et al, 2021 ; Khan et al, 2020 ; Saleem et al, 2021 ). Such science mapping illustrates scientific research's structural and dynamic aspects (Cobo et al, 2011 ).…”
