Bibliometric analysis of highly cited articles on ecosystem services

Abstract: This paper presents global research trends involving highly cited articles on ecosystem services from 1981 to 2017 based on a bibliometric analysis of such articles from the SCI-E and SSCI databases of the Web of Science. The analysis revealed that there were 132 highly cited articles, most of which were published between 2005 and 2014. Based on author keywords, the term ecosystem services was strongly linked to biodiversity. The top three journals in terms of total number of highly cited articles published we… Show more

“…In addition, the results provided in this study can also contribute towards future agendas for mountain research by targeting those components that have been overlooked so far. Fourth, the search strategy used in this study allows the evaluation of the entire spectrum of research on ecosystem services in mountains up to 2016 (see S3 Text for the trends in 2017–2018), rather than focusing mainly on influential and top cited publications such as previous reviews on ecosystem service research [6062]. However, as the search was done in English and dismissed gray literature in order to ensure the quality of studies included in the systematic review [63], an inherent bias may exist toward studies from countries with more capacity for publishing in international English-language journals.…”

“…According to Zhang et al (2019), the top authors' keywords can denote indications of the research priorities and interests of scientists and researchers in the field. Therefore, it was felt important to examine the list of keywords authors used in the selected publications included in this bibliometric study.…”

“…In order to analyze current research trends among the leading scientific publications related to the problems of talent management, the bibliometric analysis was used, as by many researchers (e.g Carlsson, Noyons, 2009, Zhang X, Estoque, Xie, Murayama, Ranagalage, 2019, Ruas, Pereira, Grosky, 2017. It enables, among other things, defining the current state of knowledge in a given area, indicating gaps in knowledge or predicting future directions of scientific research in a given area; identification of areas characterized by a relatively high saturation of conducted research as well as connections between research areas (Klincewicz, Żemigała, Mijal, 2012).…”
