BFNB Enhances Hair Growth in C57BL/6 Mice through the Induction of EGF and FGF7 Factors and the PI3K-AKT-β-Catenin Pathway

Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate the potential effects of a formulation derived from the bioactive fraction of nanostructured Bacopa procumbens (BFNB) on the promotion of hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. The characterization of the follicular phases and histomorphological analysis showed that the topical application of the formulation for 15 days significantly increased pigmentation and hair growth on the dorsum and head of the mice. Additionally, an acceleration of the follicular cycle phases was ob… Show more

“…Procedure: Functionalization of NLC surface with linker molecules, such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) or other reactive groups, to create sites for ligand attachment [ 128 ]. A targeting ligand is conjugated to a surface-functionalized NLC by covalent bonding or non-covalent interactions, such as hydrophobic interactions or electrostatic interactions [ 129 ].…”

“…For mice, insulation is mainly determined by fur and skin thickness [37,38], both factors influenced by the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway (e.g. [39][40][41]). To determine whether insulation was decreased in Pik3r1 Y657* mice, which would likely cause a compensatory increase in heat production to defend body temperature, we performed a modified Scholander experiment in which the effect of graded changes in ambient temperature on energy expenditure is assessed [32].…”

“…The thickness of subcutaneous tissue is related to: (1) protection against environmental factors and external stress, and its involvement in moisturizing function to prevent moisture loss; (2) protection of hair follicles by strengthening the formation of a layer of adipose tissue under the dermis and hair follicles, including heat insulation; and (3) indirect positive effects on hair growth by promoting the supply of necessary nutrients. (2) Thus, it is believed that an increase in the thickness of subcutaneous tissue creates an environment conducive to healthy hair growth and further improves hair growth [14].…”
