Abstract. Natsir SM. 2022. The distribution of benthic foraminifera in coral reefs ecosystem of East Penjaliran Island, Seribu Islands, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 3073-3080. East Penjaliran Island is located in the core zone of Seribu Islands Marine National Park and is included in the protected green area. The research shows the close relationship between benthic foraminifera and coral reef. Certain foraminifera has the same environmental requirement to live with coral reefs. Therefore, the study of foraminiferal assemblages is also very important to shed light on the environmental conditions for the growth of coral reefs through calculating the Foraminifera in Reef Assessment and Monitoring Index (FORAM Index/FI). Sampling was conducted in December 2016 around the coral reef ecosystems of East Penjaliran Island, Seribu Islands. A total of 37 species of benthic foraminifera were collected from the island with a diverse abundance. Based on the FI gained values on average of 3.18. It indicates that East Penjaliran Island is classified as an environmental change for coral reefs' growth. The condition was feasible for the growth of coral reefs, but it tends to be an unfavorable environment for their recovery. The benthic foraminifera assemblages can be classified into three major groups based on the Shannon diversity index and FI (i.e., Group A, Group B, and Group C) with their specific characteristics. Group A was characterized by coarse sand sediment and dwelled dominantly by opportunistic foraminifers such as Elphidium advenum, Elphidium crispum, and Flintina bradyana. Groups B and C have very fine sand sediment, but they dwelled by foraminiferal assemblages in different compositions. Group B was dominated by E. crispum and followed by several species of Peneroplis, but Group C dwelled abundantly by E. advenum, E. crispum, Elphidium depressulum and followed by symbiont-bearing foraminifera such as Peneroplis planatus.

Tunda Island is one of the islands in a group of 17 islands in the north of Java, Banten Province. Electrical energy in Tunda Island is supplied by 2 Private Diesel Genset, each of which has an installed capacity of 100 kVA and 75 kVA, with an operating time of 4-5 hours per day starting from 18.00 to 22.00. The microgrid electrical system has several advantages, in terms of efficiency, microgrid can reduce the use of fossil fuels in power plants, besides that it can reduce losses caused by the distribution system because the location of the microgrid generator is relatively close to the load. In terms of reliability, the microgrid electrical system can optimally manage energy sources for 7 days and 24 hours. In addition, the microgrid electrical system has the ability to work without being connected to the grid. With the use of a microgrid electricity system, the electricity costs that must be paid are less and most importantly can reduce carbon emissions, because the plants used in the microgrid electricity system generally use renewable energy. In this study, scenarios were made to determine the most optimum LCoE value using an optimization approach with the help of homer pro software. The operating pattern for the Tunda Island electricity system is obtained, namely, the load is carried during the day by Solar PV Power Plant and at night using a generator that has been controlled using the force on & force off mode. From the simulation obtained the lowest LCoE in the Solar PV Power Plant Hybrid configuration with capacity of 240 KWp, 302.4 KWh battery & 200 KW inverter. The ability to pay for electricity for the residents of Tunda Island is still possible if subsidized tariffs are imposed, the range of ability to pay for the residents of Tunda Island is IDR/KWh 726.45-1452.91 and their ability will decrease if they are subject to non-subsidized PLN tariffs. With PLN as the PSO, the differrence in tariffs with the local Generation Production Cost will receive a subsidy from the government. Furthermore, the sustainability of this microgrid system will have the benefit of a continuous supply of electricity. So, it can be felt by the people of Tunda Island which is managed by State-Owned Enterprise (PT. PLN Persero).

The Occurrence and Distribution of Benthic Foraminifera in Tropical Waters Along the Strait of Malacca

Foraminifera are shelled single-celled protists that are found in all marine environments. Benthic foraminifera either live in sediments or attach to surfaces on the seafloor. Understanding the distribution and ecological response of benthic foraminifera is crucial, as they can indicate past and current ocean conditions. However, the benthic foraminifera distribution along the busy Strait of Malacca, which connects the Indian Ocean (north) to the Java Sea (south), is undersampled. In this study, we collected 24 surface samples from the northern Strait of Malacca to understand the distribution of foraminifera assemblages in shallow tropical waters. A total of 49 species of benthic foraminifera were identified. Calcareous hyaline species dominated the assemblages, with an extremely low occurrence of calcareous porcelaneous species. The common calcareous hyaline taxa were Asterorotalia pulchella, Pseudorotalia schroeteriana, Discorbinella bertheloti, Ammonia tepida, and Heterolepa praecincta. Cluster analysis categorised the foraminiferal assemblages into three major groups. The first cluster (Group A) consisted of a more diverse assemblage of hyaline and agglutinated species that inhabited a mean water depth of 45 m. The second cluster represented a population that inhabited deeper water environments (average water depth of 59 m). Finally, the third cluster (Group C) consisted of a foraminifera assemblage that inhabited shallow coastal environments (average depth of 22 m) with higher organic matter enrichment. The multivariate canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) showed that the foraminiferal assemblages reflected the shallow to deep water transition in the Malacca Strait. Water depth, which defines the depositional environment, had a greater influence on foraminifera distribution here than organic matter and salinity.
