Benign Lymphoid Hyperplasia of the Conjunctiva in Children

Abstract: enign lymphoid hyperplasia of the conjunctiva occurs infrequently in children, and its presentation, clinical course, and appropriate management are not well established. We describe 2 children with nasal conjunctival masses that on pathological examination demonstrated benign lymphoid hyperplasia. Local irradiation of residual tissue was deferred, and the lesions remained stable for 1 year in one case and for 3 1 ⁄2 years in the other case. No systemic involvement had occurred. Although the natural history of… Show more

“…The use of steroid eye drops could have potentially masked the characteristics of the lesion, hence further confounding diagnosis. [3] Contamination or incorrect processing of the biopsy during initial histopathology and flow cytometry can produce inaccurate findings [5]. Since the proper methodology was conducted correctly for this case, this is unlikely.…”

“…Since the proper methodology was conducted correctly for this case, this is unlikely. Eventual diagnosis of BRLH is reassuring given the very low risk of malignant transformation in children [3]. …”

“…The pathogenesis, pathological, IHC features and clinical course of the condition have not been extensively studied 5 18. In this study, we present a cohort of 24 cases with detailed clinical information, histomorphological and immunohistochemical examination, with additional molecular testing, giving us the opportunity to better understand the clinical and histopathological features of BRLH in children and study the clinical outcomes of this disease.…”
