Die Literatur tiber die degenerativen, entziindlichen und arteriosklerotischen Erkrankungen der 5Iieren hat im letzten Jahrzehnt eine grol]e Bereicherun.g erfahren und zu einer wesentliehen FSrderung unserer Kenntnisse auf diesem Gebiete gefiihrt. Da~ wir uns bier trotzdem auch heute noch auf ,,einem der strittigsten Kapitel der gesamten Pathologie" (Orth) befinden, lehren gerade die Arbeiten bernfener Autoren der letzten Jahre. Es herrseht tiber die grundsiitzliehe Beurteilung anatomiseher und ldinischer Bilder im Bereieh der hierher gehSrigen Krankheiten in mancher Hinsicht noeh keineswegs Einigkeit. Weder naeh iir noch naeh rein anatomisehen Gesiehtspunkten, ebensowenig unter Zugrundelegung der funktionel]en StOrungen hat sieh eine Einteilang der in das grol~e Gebiet des Morbus Brightii (ira Sinne yon Volhard nnd Fahr) gehSrenden 5Iierenleiden durchftihren lassen. Es haben daher neuerdings Asehoff und Fr. )/iiiller ge[ordert, bei der Benennung dieser Krankheiten ihrePathogenese als ausschlaggebend zu betraehten.Immer mehr ist dutch die Arbeiten der letzten Jahre die grol~e Bedeutung der entziindlichen Veriinderungen tier lgalpighischen K0rper im Gesamtgebiete der Brightsehen Kl"ankheit hervorgetreten, naehdem vor einigen Jahren LShlein, im Anschlu~ an i~ltere Untersuehnngen, besonders v(m Langhans, auf ihre Wiehtigkeit ftir die Entstehung der Schrumpfniere hingewiesen haste.Von neuem geweckt wnrde das Interesse fiir die ~=ephritis dutch da, s gehiiufte Aufr yon 5Tierenentz':Jndungen bei Kriegsteilnehmern im Felde. Die Kriegsnephritis hat eine bei Beginn des Feldzuges ungeahnte Wiehtigkeit als I-teereskrankheit erlangt. Fr. Mtilier bezeiehnet sic als ein eigenartiges und ganz neues IO'ankheitsbild. Es hat aueh auf dem Gebiete der Nephritis, wie auf manchem andern, der Krieg befruehr auf die Wissenschaft gewh'kt; er hat uns die M(iglichkeit gegeben, an der Hand eines gro~en, yon vornherein gut beobaehteten Materials unsere bisherigen Kenntnisse kritiseh zu prLifen und zn erweitern.
