Bayesian updating of the Park-Ang damage index for RC frame buildings under near-fault ground motions

Abstract: Abstract. A procedure for updating the Park-Ang damage index of reinforced concrete building under near-fault ground motion is proposed. Rather than developing a new damage model, a correction term is added to the existing damage model within the Bayesian framework. The correction term is described as a linear function of the variation of sti ness of structures, which is a more consistent indicator of predicting the level of damage. The Bayesian method is an e ective approach when new data become available. Th… Show more

“…Second, the Park & Ang damage index has been widely used for RC structures due to its simplicity and good correlation with the observed damage 40 . A number of existing studies 62–65 have quantified different limit states in terms of the Park & Ang damage index. This is valuable for developing MS‐AS fragility surfaces of RC structures.…”

“…The suggested method efficiently calculates a reliable GDI that can assess building damage from small to large scale buildings. doi: 10 In the present study, an 8-storey RC frame-shear wall building of Life Safety performance level has been considered for the assessment of DI. The unified performance-based design (UPBD) method has been employed for designing the RC frame shear wall building.…”
