Bauer-7-en-3beta-yl acetate: a major constituent of unusual samples of Brazilian propolis

Abstract: The pentacyclic triterpenoid bauer-7-en-3beta-yl acetate was obtained from the chloroform extract of an unusual sample of propolis from southeast Brazil with the yield of 7%. The compound was identified by comparison of IR, MS and NMR analysis with published data

“…The result is the production of a propolis with very diverse properties and composition to the common pattern produced in the region. Results of composition of propolis from southeast Brazil, strikingly different from the typical green pattern (the propolis type prevalent in that region) have been reported by Negri et al (2003) and Teixeira et al (2006). In such cases, there seems to be an inverse correlation between the amounts of triterpenoids and those of phenolic compounds: typical green propolis contains predominantly phenolic substances, while diverging propolis types are predominantly triterpenoidal.…”

“…For example, they have been reported frequently in Brazilian propolis (Negri, Salatino, & Salatino, 2003), sometimes as major constituents (Teixeira, Message, Negri, & Salatino, 2006). a-Amyrin has been reported at high contents in Venezuelan propolis (Trusheva , 2004).…”
