Toz arıtma çamuru (TAÇ)Özet: Bu çalışmada, sulu ortamlardan modifiye edilmiş toz arıtma çamuru (TAÇ) kullanılarak toryum iyonlarının biyosorpsiyon ile gideriminde izoterm ve kinetik analiz çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Biyo-adsorban olarak kullanılan toz arıtma çamuru, evsel atıksu arıtma tesisi havalandırma havuzundan temin edilmiştir. Elde edilen toz arıtma çamuru %1' lik H 2 O 2 ile modifiye edilerek yüzeyinde bulunan kirlilikler giderilmiş ve metal bağlayacak aktif alanlar ise arttırılmıştır. Modifiye edilen toz arıtma çamuru biyo-adsorbantının yapısı FTIR yöntemi ile karakterize edilmiştir. Elde edilen deneysel verilerin Langmuir, Freundlich ve genelleştirilmiş adsorpsiyon izoterm modelleri, Lagergren ve Ho's Kinetik modelleri ile uyumluluğu araştırılmıştır. Korelasyon katsayıları baz alındığında, deneysel verileri en iyi doğrulayan izotermin Freundlich izotermi olduğu görülmektedir. Th(IV) iyonunun TAÇ' u kullanılarak biyosorpsiyonla giderilmesinde uygulanan izoterm deneylerinden Langmuir izotermi sonucunda 48,9 mg/g biyosorpsiyon kapasitesi elde edilmiştir. Uygulanan kinetik çalışmalarında ise yalancı ikinci dereceden kinetiklerin daha uyumlu olduğu görülmüştür. İkinci derece hız sabitleri Th(IV) konsantrasyonunun 5 mg/L' den 50 mg/L' a çıkması ile 0,120 (mg/g) -1 sa -1 'den 0,020 (mg/g) -1 sa -1 'e düşmüştür. Batch Kinetics and Isotherms for Biosorption of Thorium Ions onto Pretreated Powdered Waste Sludge from Aqueous SolutionKeywords Thorium (IV), Biosorption, Isotherm, Kinetics, Powdered waste sludge (PWS) Abstract: In this study, the batch kinetics and isotherms for biosorption of thorium ions onto pre-treated powdered waste sludge (PWS) from aqueous solution were investigated. Powdered waste sludge is used as an adsorbent was obtained from the sewage treatment plant aeration basin. The obtained powdered waste sludge was modified with 1% H 2 O 2 for removing pollution on its surface and it was increased the active sites to bind metals. The structure of the modified powdered waste sludge biosorbents were characterized by FTIR methodology. Langmuir, Freundlich, generalized adsorption isotherm and Lagergren and Ho's kinetic models compatibility were investigated on the obtained experimental results. It can be seen that the Freundlich isotherm was the best isotherms for confirming the experimental results based on the correlation coefficients. 48.9 mg/g biosorption capacity was found by using Langmuir isotherm results which were applied for the removal of Th(IV) ions by using PWS biosorption. The pseudo second order kinetics were more compatible in the applied other kinetic studies. The second order rate constants with increasing of Th (IV) concentration from 5 mg/L to 50 mg/L were decreased from 0.120 (mg/g) -1 h -1 to 0.020 (mg/g) -1 h -1 .

Problem statement: Heavy metals have been one of hazardous components in industrial effluents that can be damaged on the environment by discharging uncontrolled wastewater. The aims of this investigation were biosorption of Cd (II) ions onto pretreated dried activated sludge and determination of kinetic and isotherm of biosorption. Approach: Activated sludge was obtained from Tehran municipal wastewater treatment plant. Activated Sludge was dried and used for biosorbtion of Cd (II) ions from aqueous solution. Dried Activated Sluge (DAS) was pretreated with three different solutions (H 2 O 2 , NaOH and ethanol). Biosorption capacity of different types of DAS to remove Cd (II) ions was investigated as a function of Cd (II) concentrations at variable initial Cd (II) concentrations between 10 and 500 mg L −1 with a DAS particle size 0.2-0.3 mm using batch biosorption experiments.Results: Biosorption of Cd (II) by Dried Activated Sludge (DAS) was found to perform better than the others after pretreatment with H 2 O 2 . The maximum biosorption capacity was given 256.41, 217.39, 212.77 and 204.08 mg g −1 for the H 2 O 2 , NaOH; Ethanol pretreated and untreated DAS, respectively. The pseudo-second order kinetic model was found to be more suitable than the pseudo-first order kinetic model to correlate the experimental data for all types of DAS (R 2 >0.9). The Freundlich isotherm was found to fit the experimental data slightly better than the Langmuir isotherm model for all pretreated and untreated DAS (R 2 >0.99). Conclusion: It can be concluded that pretreatment DAS yield higher Cd (II) biosorption capacity, especially DAS that pretreated with H 2 O 2 .

In this study, the biosorption of Cd(II), Ni(II) and Pb(II) on Aspergillus niger in a batch system was investigated, and optimal condition determined by means of central composite design (CCD) under response surface methodology (RSM). Biomass inactivated by heat and pretreated by alkali solution was used in the determination of optimal conditions. The effect of initial solution pH, biomass dose and initial ion concentration on the removal efficiency of metal ions by A. niger was optimized using a design of experiment (DOE) method. Experimental results indicated that the optimal conditions for biosorption were 5.22 g/L, 89.93 mg/L and 6.01 for biomass dose, initial ion concentration and solution pH, respectively. Enhancement of metal biosorption capacity of the dried biomass by pretreatment with sodium hydroxide was observed. Maximal removal efficiencies for Cd(II), Ni(III) and Pb(II) ions of 98, 80 and 99% were achieved, respectively. The biosorption capacity of A. niger biomass obtained for Cd(II), Ni(II) and Pb(II) ions was 2.2, 1.6 and 4.7 mg/g, respectively. According to these observations the fungal biomass of A. niger is a suitable biosorbent for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Multiple response optimization was applied to the experimental data to discover the optimal conditions for a set of responses, simultaneously, by using a desirability function.
