Vlaho Brailo Stomatološki fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Zavod za oralnu medicinu Gundulićeva 5, 10 000 Zagreb brailo@sfzg.hr Sažetak Svrha ispitivanja: Bioimpedancija je otpor prolasku električne struje kroz tkivo i ovisi o njegovoj strukturi i kemijskom sastavu. Svrha istraživanja bila je mapirati bioimpedancijske spektre za svaku regiju usne šupljine. Ispitanici i postupci: U mjerenju bioimpedancije sudjelovalo je tridesetero ispitanika s urednim nalazom oralne sluznice, a obavljalo se na 14 lokalizacija u usnoj šupljini s lijeve i desne strane te je ponovljeno nakon sedam i četrnaest dana. Rezultati: Najniže vrijednosti izmjerene su na dorzumu jezika, a najviše na tvrdom nepcu. Nije ustanovljena statistički značajna razlika između mjerenja na lijevoj i desnoj strani. Statistički značajno više vrijednosti izmjerene su ženama na sluznici gornje usne, dorzumu jezika i na ventralnom dijelu jezika. Utvrđena je statistički značajna razlika između nepušača i pušača na sluznici donje usne i sluznici dna usne šuplji-ne. Vrijednosti bioimpedancije bile su u negativnoj korelaciji s količinom sline na sluznici gornje usne, na tvrdom nepcu, dorzumu jezika i na podjezičnoj sluznici. Mjerenja pri niskim frekvencijama imala su veću varijabilnost. Zaključak: Vrijednosti bioimpedancije najčešće ovise o stupnju keratinizacije sluznice. Na njihove vrijednosti vjerojatno utječu demografski i klinički čimbenici, što je potrebno razjasniti u daljnjim studijama s većim brojem ispitanika. RESUMO.A dermatite atópica canina (D-AC) é uma doença alérgica, crônica e inflamatória da pele que afeita o 10-15% dos cães. A patogênese da doença tinha girado em torno a processos de hipersensibilidade mediada pela IgE, mas, nos últimos tempos, pesquisadores têm dirigido seus esforços à demonstração da importância da barreira epidérmica no desenvolvimento da DAC, baseando-se em sua maioria em estudos prévios da Dermatite Atópica Humana. Pesquisas relacionadas com a perda transepidérmica de água, os níveis de hidratação da pele e as anormalidades nos lipídeos do estrato córneo e nas proteínas superficiais da epiderme, principalmente na filagrina, têm sido fundamentais para avançar na compreensão da patogenia da DAC.Palavras chave: Cães, barreira epidérmica, estrato córneo, dermatite atópica. Importance of epidermal barrier in canine atopic dermatitis: ReviewABSTRACT. Canine Atopic Dermatitis (CAD) is an allergic, chronic and inflammatory skin disease which affects 10-15% of canine population. For several years, pathogenesis of the disease had been linked to hypersensitivity processes mediated by IgE, but during the last decade, researchers have led their efforts to demonstrate the importance of the skin barrier in the development of CAD, based most of the times on previous studies related with Human Atopic Dermatitis. Studies in dog sincluding transepidermal water loss, skin moisture levels and abnormalities in the stratum corneum lipids and in the superficial proteins of the epidermis, filaggrin mainly, have been very important to advance the understanding of this common and frequent disease in veterinary medicine.

In Vitro Differential Diagnosis of Clavus and Verruca by a Predictive Model Generated from Electrical Impedance

BackgroundSimilar clinical appearances prevent accurate diagnosis of two common skin diseases, clavus and verruca. In this study, electrical impedance is employed as a novel tool to generate a predictive model for differentiating these two diseases.Materials and MethodsWe used 29 clavus and 28 verruca lesions. To obtain impedance parameters, a LCR-meter system was applied to measure capacitance (C), resistance (Re), impedance magnitude (Z), and phase angle (θ). These values were combined with lesion thickness (d) to characterize the tissue specimens. The results from clavus and verruca were then fitted to a univariate logistic regression model with the generalized estimating equations (GEE) method. In model generation, log ZSD and θSD were formulated as predictors by fitting a multiple logistic regression model with the same GEE method. The potential nonlinear effects of covariates were detected by fitting generalized additive models (GAM). Moreover, the model was validated by the goodness-of-fit (GOF) assessments.ResultsSignificant mean differences of the index d, Re, Z, and θ are found between clavus and verruca (p<0.001). A final predictive model is established with Z and θ indices. The model fits the observed data quite well. In GOF evaluation, the area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve is 0.875 (>0.7), the adjusted generalized R 2 is 0.512 (>0.3), and the p value of the Hosmer-Lemeshow GOF test is 0.350 (>0.05).ConclusionsThis technique promises to provide an approved model for differential diagnosis of clavus and verruca. It could provide a rapid, relatively low-cost, safe and non-invasive screening tool in clinic use.
