Barriers to Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation in China's prefabricated construction: An interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach

Abstract: The use of this file must follow the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives License, as required by Elsevier's policy. Highlights• Barriers affecting BIM implementation in China's prefabricated construction were identified. • The interrelationships among key barriers were analyzed.• ISM methodology was applied to evaluate most influential relationships.• Recommendations for BIM implementation in China's prefabricated construction were provided.

“…The objective of this study is to utilize ISM to explore the relationships between various factors of customer satisfaction with hot spring tourism. The establishment of an ISM involves a number of steps as below, and the process is outlined in Figure 1, which draws from other ISM-based journal papers [80][81][82]. The details of the development of the structural models for each of the clusters are provided in the case study section.…”

“…In order to establish a review analysis on critical success factors, Antwi-Afari (2018) conducted a comprehensive review on study of CSFs for BIM implementation and provided valuable reference for future research [28]. Also, Tan (2019) highlighted the barriers to BIM implementation in China's prefabricated construction and offered technological and managerial solutions to improve BIM implementation in China's prefabricated construction [29].…”

“…China's prefabricated buildings are still in the initial stage of development, with the prefabrication of components as the main part, and the prefabrication level of factories is generally not high [1,18]. Heng Li proposed the IKEA model of the manufacturing industry and VP technology into a prefabricated construction process [19].…”
