Barriers related to the implementation of intelligent transport systems in cities - the Polish local government’s perspective

Abstract: Intelligent transport systems (ITS) are undoubtedly an opportunity for the sustainable development of smart cities today. ITS is based on advanced transport technologies that help minimise the emission of harmful substances to the environment. Smart mobility and ITS are related to the use of ICT. The implementation of technologically advanced ITS is associated with several benefits, barriers and difficulties. However, transport, ITS and smart mobility (as a component of a smart city) are indicated as the most … Show more

“…Group 07 -ITS presents studies related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, a reference concept for conventional public transportation management. It addresses topics such as technological implementation barriers of ITS [192], ITS planning [193][194][195], tra c light control based on ITS [196,197], and tra c monitoring using ITS [198][199][200][201][202][203]. On the other hand, Group 08 -IoT, covers studies on the application of the Internet of Things in urban mobility management [204].…”

“…In equation ( 2), η represents the driver's reaction time, σ represents the vehicle travel speed, λ represents the vehicle travel acceleration and l represents the vehicle length. Usually in traffic control, the signal control system can make decisions to adjust the switching sequence according to the current traffic conditions, either by switching or by maintaining the current signal phase [3][4]. A reasonable green signal ratio configuration is an important factor in ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic.…”
