Barium-based scintillating MOFs for X-ray dosage detection with intrinsic energy resolution via luminescent multidentate naphthalene disulfonate moieties

Abstract: The luminescent multidentate naphthalene-sulfonic moieties and non-toxic barium ions worked synergistically to fabricate scintillating barium-based metal-organic frameworks into latent applications in X-ray dosage detection with their merited intrinsic energy resolution.

“…For example, anthracene as core derivative is one of the most popular luminescent organic bridging ligands for MOF scintillators due to their commercial availability, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and fast sensitization [18,31,54]. Besides, naphthalene as a core derivative is also widely used to fabricate MOF scintillators, which showed excellent light intensity as compared with single organic linkers or metal clusters [45,55]. It indicates that organic ligands with radioluminescence properties may be one of the conditions for constructing MOF scintillators.…”

“…Except for the anthracene core derivatives, naphthalene core derivatives were also used as the organic luminescence linkers [45,55]. Using 1,4-naphthalene dicarboxylate acid (1,4-H 2 ndc), 1,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate acid (1,6-H 2 ndc), and PbCl 2 as the raw materials, and DMF/H 2 O and DMA/H 2 O as the solvents, four kinds of MOF scintillators (SMOF-1, 2, 3, and 4) were synthesized by solvothermal method (Figure 5a).…”

“…The fluorescent sensors are a kind of luminescent materials, suitable for rapid QA detection. , Coordination polymers (CPs) or metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are one of the important material platforms for fluorescent sensors. The metal nodes weave with organic linkers into highly ordered spatial structures, which integrate the advantages of both sides to obtain the desired luminescent properties in CPs or MOF materials. The ligands as energy antennae undertake the roles of the spacers and receptors and the metal nodes as the fluorophores to fabricate fluorescent sensors. Furthermore, the wide selections of the ligands and the metal nodes make the search for a fluorescent sensor feasible.…”
