Balysum-2 inhibitis evoked activity of the pyramidal neurons in hippocampus

Abstract: The effects of Balysum-2 on the responsiveness of field CA1 hippocampal pyramidal neurons was studied in experiments with cultured cerebral slices. Addition to the medium of 10-*M Balysum-2 or its active ingredient (comenic acid) led to a reversible decrease in the peak amplitude of focal response (pop-spike) recorded in the pyramidal layer CA1 during stimulation of the radial layer. Perfusion of hippocampal slices with a solution containing the noncompetitive GABAA-antagonist picrotoxin prevented the effects … Show more

“…The molecular structure of the comenate complex was studied using FT-IR spectrometry, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy and thermal analysis and detailed via X-ray diffraction analysis. It should be noted that comenic acid is an active component of the drug baliz-2, used for cell regeneration in various pathologies [16,17]. Comenic acid reduces the toxic effect of glutamate on the culture of cerebellar neurons [18].…”

“…Long-term potentiation (LTP) in hippocampal slices represents a suitable model for studying molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity and testing the effects of biologically active substances on synaptic transmission [3,8,9]. Induction of LTP is a Ca2+-dependent process [2] controlled by Ca2 § proteins, including CaZ+-binding S 100 protein.…”
