Environmental factors in workspaces affect employee productivity and satisfaction, particularly in call centres. One of the most challenging issues in contemporary offices is overcoming the problems of concentration on work, despite adverse effects such as insufficient lighting, inappropriate acoustics, or inadequate ventilation. The challenges increase in open-plan solutions. This paper presents a case study from Turkey that elaborates on strategies to improve environmental performance in call centres. It is inspired by a questionnaire conducted among employees of a call centre, identifying existing design lacks. Based on the results, acoustic quality calculations of the physical workspace follow, and initial computing outcomes reveal that the conditions do not meet the standards for call centres. The authors propose strategies to improve acoustic performance in the workspace and apply them to a virtual model. Results reveal that the proposed solutions allow for meeting the standards. Based on the findings, the authors suggest several other strategies for improving the physical environmental quality of the place, thus forming a guideline for the architectural design of call centres. The study derives information from a specific case and context to propose universally applicable solutions. It fills a gap in the literature as it exemplifies the characteristics of call centres in Turkey, which have not been studied before.

This article analyses the specifics of implementing employee privacy obligations in employment relationships. In employment relations, the employer has a general duty to make the employee aware of the local legislation governing his or her work. In this context, there is a clash between two legally protected interests: on the one hand, the employer's interest in protecting the business , ensuring business processes, the security of assets and the health and safety of employees, and on the other hand, the obligation not to infringe the employee's right to privacy. Technical means of monitoring employees are one of the simplest ways of collecting data and Information. At the same time, the question of proportionality of using such means is raised -whether all the Information collected by automated means is necessary to justify the specific purpose of data collection. Collecting data solely for personal interest without setting strict rules on the collection of Information and the limits of the Information collected restricts an employee's right to privacy. An employer is not entitled to collect data (monitoring) to control an employee's work process or behaviour but may record specific data if necessary to protect production, health and safety or to ensure the efficient running of an organisation. However, even in such cases, the employe r must take additional measures to minimise such monitoring or evaluate its results as much as possible. The author analyses the problem in the context of the employment relationship, and through the implementation of the employer's obligation to establish specific local rules and the commitment to make the employee aware of those rules (transparency principle).

The COVID‐19 pandemic has fundamentally changed how we work. Even after the pandemic, many companies offer their employees the option of working from home. Although working from home may offer several benefits, our understanding of whether employees are more creative when working from home or in an office is limited. To address this research gap, we conducted an experimental study with a German company whose employees usually work in an activity‐based workspace consisting of open, closed and informal spaces that can be used by employees depending on the task at hand. Employees self‐assessed their creative performance for different creative tasks (individual vs. team) and in different work environments (office vs. home office). Our findings reveal that for individual creative tasks (e.g. creating a presentation), employees are more creative when working from home (vs. in the office) because they experience higher levels of perceived psychological freedom (mediating effect). By contrast, for team creative tasks (e.g. developing ideas for a new product), employees reported being more creative when working in the office (vs. from home) due to higher levels of perceived psychological safety (mediating effect). Taken together, these findings enhance our understanding of when and how working from home (vs. in the office) may be beneficial for employees' creativity.
