Bacterial Proliferation in Municipal Water Supplied in Mirpur Locality of Dhaka City, Bangladesh

Abstract: Water related environmental pollution has long been a major concern not only in Bangladesh but also in other developing countries. Present study assessed the pathogenic prevalence in municipal water supplied across Mirpur zone, Dhaka, and its subsequent health impact on the local community. Elevated numbers of pathogenic bacteria including Aeromonas spp., Shigella spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Salmonella spp. were found in the consumer points (n ¼ 30) compared to that of the supply points (n ¼ 10). Additional… Show more

“…Microbiological contamination of fresh produces is well known with its impact on the onset of food borne illness associated with morbidity and mortality (3,5,6,8,9,11,(27)(28)(29). In cohort to the previous findings, in the current investigation, almost all fruit samples examined were found to be contaminated with colossal number of bacteria and a comparatively moderate load of fungi, mostly observed in the skin portions (Table 1).…”

“…They fall into the category of a forming units due to the suggestive endogenous disease, Received 12 January 2015/Accepted 08 March 2015 opportunistic microflora, with high possibilities of colonization since the harvesting period of horticultural products, when the pH of the tissue increased, the skin layers became soften and soluble carbohydrates build up and defense barriers is weaken (9). Now a day's treatment of various diseases is becoming difficult because of the emergence of drug resistant pathogens that may be introduced into the host because of the consumption of contaminated food (10)(11)(12)(13)(14). In recent years, many antibiotics have lost their effectiveness due to development of resistant strains as a result of the expression of resistance genes or spontaneous mutations within the microbial populations (15)(16)(17)(18)(19).…”

“…Such a situation further tends to the probable a 6 onset of contagious diseases caused by the pathogenic bacteria most of which have been found to be drugresistant (30)(31). Based on these evidences on the existence of drug-resistance features of the food and water contaminating microorganisms together with the demonstration of the antibiotic resistant pathogenic bacteria in various clinical samples, current study further pondered to the microbiological complications raised by flowers which are indeed very affirm part of the environment.…”
