Current options for the treatment ofHelicobacter pylori

Abstract: The continuous rising of antimicrobial resistance has accounted for the declined efficiency of standard triple therapies, yielding < 70% eradication in most countries. Alternative first-line strategies have been proposed and largely validated and are now replacing standard-of-care therapies in areas with a high incidence of clarithromycin-resistance (> 20%). Such treatments include the bismuth-containing quadruple therapy, concomitant, sequential and levofloxacin-based regimens, the later mainly designated, to… Show more

“…Socioeconomically, H. pylori infection increases the risk of malignancy and the expense of H. pylori-associated morbidity [9] . H. pylori infection has also been related to non-digestive conditions such as ischemic heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and iron deficient anemia [4,10] . In other report, some patients with gastritis resolved H. pylori infection without using antibiotic treatment [11] .…”

“…Helicobacter pylori is thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and various extra-gastrointestinal manifestations (1) (2) (3) . Unfortunately, emerging bacterial resistance causes treatment problems, leading to a search for new treatment regimens.…”
